Getting Cricky Cabin Fever Blog Hop

Welcome to the "Cabin Fever" Getting Cricky Blog Hop!!

We're so happy you could join us for this month's Getting Cricky Design Team Blog Hop!!  We have an EXTRA SPECIAL hop for you this month -- All week long, the Design Team has been featuring many of Kristal's stamp sets as well as an array of Cricut Cartridges, SVG cuts, and more in anticipation of the hop...  If you've missed out on any of the week, be sure to check out our previous posts for ALMOST 100 CREATIVE IDEAS and PROJECTS as well as giveaways, promotions, tips, and tutorials!!  **Plus you can link up YOUR project using any of Kristal's stamp sets and a Cricut Cartridge that you haven't used in at least 3 months (dust 'em off and get to cuttin'!!)...  To enter the challenge, or for more details, please CLICK HERE!!

If you've hopped along from my favorite creative Mermaid friend, Lisa, then you are in the right place!! If you are just joining me from your dashboard, or reading this via email, please be sure to CLICK HERE to start at the beginning with Kristal's blog (you'll want to catch up on all the FUN!!)...

Soooooooo...  The cartridge that I chose to use this week is the Creative Memories TRAVELER Cartridge (available here)...  When I first purchased this cartridge, I was ECSTATIC about all the FUN vacation and summer cuts as well as the TWO awesome FONTS...   I immediately created one of my (still) favorite Caribbean Cruise layouts (see it here), and several other projects and layouts (see them all here)...  But then, I kinda forgot about how much I loved the fonts and the sprinklers were put away and the vacations were past...  So I was excited to use this cartridge for all kinds of FUN STUFF this week (stay tuned for this next week as you'll see PLENTY more projects with this cartridge -- I re-discovered all kinds of FUN images that I can't WAIT to use!!)...

But for tonight...  THIS is what I have to show you...  My kiddos aren't little anymore, but I can TOTALLY see this as a project I might STILL be able to get them to do...  Heck, I want to do it again myself cuz I'm so excited about the results....
My Lion Night Light was quick and easy and FUN to make -- And I can't think of anyone who wouldn't enjoy having such a sweet night light to chase away the darkness...  Is there any sentiment better for this fun tag (found on the Traveler Cartridge) than Splashtastic Summer's "Shine On!"???  Check it out in the dark....
Can you believe that this was created using only things that I already had on hand???  I'd bet that YOU have everything you need to make one of these TODAY!! :)
Those fabulous "jungle" leaves were cut at 3.5", 3.75", and 4" from the Traveler Cricut Cartridge.  I cut the base layer from green, the base SHIFT layer from yellow, and the shadow layer from brown...  I used green ink and a sponge dauber to distress the leaves and folded them and bent them before attaching them to the light (after I finished everything else on the jar).  I LOVE these leaves and will be using them in another project VERY soon...
The base of my night light is a jar from my recycle bin...  Most of my recycling never makes it to the curb because I LOVE to repurpose jars and cans for other projects...  I've actually been known to pick up a jar of one food or another just because the jar is "so cool"...  The-Girl-Child has often been witness to my crazy "No, get the other brand, I like the jar better even though the sauce needs a little help" moments more than once....  Of course, forcing my kiddos to finish off the Jones' Soda because I really wanted to finish a project that night is a sort-of-common thing around here too...  :)
So...  Are you ready for the details on how your kiddos can make one of these for their rooms (or you can make one for yours)???  Well...  Here ya go!!
First, dip your sponge brush in the decoupage and "paint" jar...  Then, dip your sponge in water and brush over surface...
After adding each strip of tissue paper, brush over it with a little decoupage and a little water...  Once jar is completely covered, "paint" entire jar with decoupage layer...  Set aside to dry.
While your jar is drying, punch pieces for the face, and cut your tag and leaves...  Ink the edges of each piece.  I used caramel ink for the face pieces and tag and a garden green ink for the leaves...
It's not shown in the pictures here, but I decided to add three small punched brown circles (I used a bubble punch) to the cheeks (where the whiskers would be)...  You could easily modify this night light for another animal...  Don't ya think the face kinda looks like a bear or even a squirrel???
To create the Lion's mane, I cut a 3.5"x12" strip of brown, scored it at 1/2" on the long side and cut 1/8" strips up to the score line...
I used some super sticky "red" tape to attach the mane after curling the strips around a pencil...  And voila!!  My decoupage was dry within about 30 minutes (about the amount of time it took me to cut out all the other pieces and stamp my tag)...  I added the face, tied a bow, and stuck a battery-operated tealight under the jar!!  The whole project was completed in about an hour...
When you finish making yours, maybe you'd like to enter it in the challenge over at the Alphabet Challenge Blog -- I'd like to enter mine there as the theme this week is "Animal Antics"...  :)

For my project today, I've featured the "Splashtastic Summer" Stamp Art Set... To make this set yours, or for more details on the set, please click on the image below!!

How extremely creative! Absolutely fantastic night light! I have so many Cricut carts that I haven't even opened and I've had some of them for over a year -- I would say they have been neglected. I have every intention of using them and even have specific projects in mind; I just don't seem to be able to make the time to get to them. One of them is Ornamental Iron -- still in the clamshell, but I pretty much designed my DH's anniversary card months ago with this cart in mind. Thanks for the chance to win this wonderful night light!
