Chinese New Year Blog Hop DAY ONE -- Have a Cookie!! :)

Welcome to the Chinese New Year Blog Hop!!

January 22-23, 2012
Year of the Dragon

Ni hao and welcome to the Chinese New Year Blog Hop! This hop is in honor of Guan, the little boy April's family is adopting from Taiwan. To celebrate his culture, we want to share some Chinese-inspired projects with you!

If you have arrived here from Ashley, then you are in the right place!! :)  If you are just joining in from your dashboard or reading this via email, please CLICK HERE to start at April's blog -- you don't want to miss anyone's amazing creativity!

For my project, I created...
...this fun basket of fortune cookie favors to share with my guests for Chinese New Year!!  I used red cardstock distressed with metallic gold ink for the fortune cookies...  And metallic gold strips of paper for the "fortunes".  I've made these before, and they are SO FUN -- Everyone always enjoys taking a fortune cookie home... (if you would like my tutorial to make these fortune cookies for YOUR Chinese New Year get-together, please CLICK HERE).
I decided to create one of these fun baskets to hold my fortune cookies...  I first saw one of these on Kathy's blog, and I fell in love with it!!  If you haven't tried one of these yet, they are super easy!!  My pattern/tutorial for this basket can be found HERE if you'd like to give it a try...  :)
I used the same metallic cardstock for the paper strips and box panels; however, I embossed the box panels with the Sizzix Damask embossing folder...  I love the texture this embossing folder creates -- And I thought it was perfect for my Chinese-themed project...  What do you think???  :)
To create the "fortune" on the metallic strip, I used a Sakura black "glaze" pen and hand wrote the sentiment...  This was extremely difficult to photograph (since the cardstock is somewhat reflective), but the ink still looks WET because it creates an embossed effect on the cardstock...  Very cool!! :)
I hope you've enjoyed my project as much as I enjoyed making it to share with you!!  Remember that this is a two-day hop, so I'll have another project to share tomorrow--  I hope you'll hop on by again!! :)

We have some great blog candy to offer from April Nourse and PSA Essentials. To be eligible, you will need to comment on each blog on each day's post (this is a TWO-DAY hop, so be sure to stop back tomorrow!!). We'd love for you to become a follower of each of our blogs as well...

Thanks again for stopping by! Your next stop is Jearise!!

Here are the links for all the stops in April's Chinese New Year Blog Hop...  See ya again tomorrow!! :)
