Decorate To Celebrate! -- Challenge #1 Father's Day Party Theme

Woot-Woot!!  Welcome June 1st!!  Are you ready to start the very FIRST Challenge over at Decorate To Celebrate!?  YAY!!

For Challenge #1, participants are asked to create any project to be used as a party decoration (or party supply) for a FATHER'S DAY THEMED PARTY!!  Let's celebrate those wonderful DADS out there with your party banners, pennants, yard signs, cupcakes, party favors and more!!

For my project, I chose to make a set of FUN cupcake/cookie toppers and a decorative centerpiece:
I really wanted to let my dad know that he is DEFINITELY #1!!  He's the kind of dad that I wish everyone could have...  And I know these are the kind of cookies that HE would like to have!!
To create the rosettes for the toppers, I started with a strip of 1.5"x12" decorative paper and scored it at 1/4" intervals to make mountain/valley folds down the length of the strip.  After adhering the ends of the strip to each other, I pressed one edge together at the center and the other edge out to create the 'fan'...  The center was then hot-glued to hold it firmly in place.  The "#1 Dad" was cut at 2" from the Celebrate with Flourish Cricut Cartridge for the toppers (and cut at 4" for the centerpiece).  I hot-glued wooden skewers to the back so that they could easily be added to the cupcakes/cookies.
For my centerpiece, I started with a 'recycled' jar (I try to reuse and repurpose as many glass jars as I can -- remember the jar of Candy Corn and the Retirement Fund Bank?).  This jar happened to have some cool markings and script along the side, so I thought it was really neat.  I found some gold glass stars in (of all places) the JUNK drawer in my kitchen!!  I was so excited when I came across those because they matched the color scheme of my project perfectly!!  It also inspired me to try to convince someone to come up with a challenge using something found in your junk drawer!!  Whaddya think??? :)
That nifty twisted, knotted, accent cord is actually about a yard of 2 1/2" sheer wired black ribbon twisted up into a 'rope' and then a yard of 1/4" satin-like ribbon twisted around the black...  I wrapped it several times around the jar, tied it in a simple knot and then knotted the ends to look more like a rope.  I had that black ribbon in my scrap stash and the gold ribbon is an 88 cent special from Walmart!
This larger rosette was created exactly the same way as the smaller ones except that I started with TWO 3"x12" strips of decorative paper and adhered them together to make a 3"x24"ish strip before adhering the other ends together (to make the loop)...  The "#1 Dad" was cut at 4" and I embossed the black and white layers for some extra dimension.  I also added small dots of silver stickles all around the outside edge of the rosette (I did this on the toppers too).
Here's a close-up of those delicious cookie creations (which I did not make, by the way -- My local Giant Eagle has a pretty scrumptious bakery, and I am happy to let them do most of the baking!!)...  Doesn't that look like a scoop of ice cream covered in fudge???
If you have any questions about my project, please leave them in the comments section and I'll be sure to get back to you!!  Of course, your comments are always welcomed and appreciated, and I'd love to visit your blog as well (if you have one) -- so please be sure to leave a link so I can hop over to see you too!!

Okay, my creative friends -- Now it's YOUR turn to show us what you've got!!  :)  Need some more inspiration?  I'd love for you to visit each of these talented ladies to see what they created too!!

Challenge #1 is open until 11:59pm (EST) on June 14th, so link up your project at Decorate To Celebrate! to be eligible for this month's prize -- a Hello Kitty Greetings Cricut Cartridge!  Hope to see YOUR creation there!! :)

Until next time,
