For this challenge, I chose to feature the "Splashtastic Summer" Stamp Art Set from K Andrew Designs... I just love all of the FUN sentiments on this set!! Whether you're organizing a pool party, neighborhood get-together, or just sending fun notes to friends, this set is so CHEERFUL and versatile!!
Now... there are certain stores I should be banned from -- For example, Wally-World has always been a great weakness of mine (who knew that going in for a loaf of bread would cost me $80???)... The Dollar Store is another one (everything is ONLY $1!! How can my total be $42.40???)... My kids will definitely GROAN loudly if I say "I just need to run in to M's (or J's) for a quick minute!" (they know this means a minimum of one HOUR and possibly a week without milk - okay, I'm TOTALLY kidding about that!!)... There are OTHER stores, however, that are like a SNEAK-ATTACK on the kiddos... Case in point... I had pictures printed at Walgreen's for The-Girl-Child's graduation party invitations. We ran in to pick them up; however, on our way to the door, the LARGE red and yellow (two colors that strike FEAR in the eyes of my kiddos) CLEARANCE signs caught my eye... Ah, a sale... Ooooooh, on SUMMER goodies!! My kids haven't needed a sand pail for the beach in at least ten years, but when they are 75% OFF, you can't pass that up!! What's this?? A Spongebob water gun?? Of COURSE we need this -- It's only $1.99!! And LOOKIE here -- a large bag of FISH SQUIRTIES -- OH, what FUN (imagine this in my very best "Mrs. Doubtfire" voice please)!! The-Girl-Child made me put EVERYTHING back except the fish squirties (and these were allowed only after much teeth-gnashing and begging... And a little convincing that I could use them for a challenge!). And so, to keep my promise that I would use them for something exciting, here is my Simply Sunday Challenge project...
I cut circles (using the George and Basic Shapes Cricut Cartridge) from LIGHT BLUE cardstock at 3/4", 1", and 1.25" and from ROYAL BLUE cardstock at 1", 1.25", and 1.5". I embossed the ROYAL BLUE circles with the Sizzix 'Splash' embossing folder. I stamped my sentiment "Have a FINtastic day" with Stampin' Up!'s blue ink using the mix-and-match stamps from the "Splashtastic Summer" Stamp Art Set from K Andrew Designs. I used my white Signo gel pen to outline the light blue circles and add a 'highlight' on each of the air bubbles.
I really wanted the bubbles to look like they were coming from the fishie's mouth, so I took a thin wire and wrapped it around a 1/4" dowel to create a spring... I flattened two areas on my spring to attach the bubbles, then twisted one end into the fish where the water squirts from the mouth. I found a glass candle holder that resembled a fish bowl, filled it with glass gems, and added a sheer ribbon around the outside. I had so much fun making this that I think all of my other little fishie squirters are going to end up like this too -- I mean, who wouldn't just grin from ear to ear after receiving one of these fun little treats??? :)
That is one happy little fishie there -- I hope he brought a smile to your day and inspired you to create a fun little something for the challenge -- It really can be anything your heart desires -- A gift card holder, a lunchbox note/treat, a gift bag, a treat bag, a favor box... Oh, the list goes on!! :)
So hop on over and enter the Simply Sunday Challenge at Getting Cricky... We can't WAIT to see what you create!!
