Our snow came in celebration of Christmas In July last night... It was disguised as buckets of RAIN!! :) Boy, did we need that rain... I actually had hoped that it would continue to rain much longer than it did. I think I could hear the ground making gurgling noises as it drank in the summer 'snowfall'... Then again, that could have just been The-Boy-Child finishing off another gallon of milk. :) And speaking of Christmas and children...
Do you have a special Christmas tradition that you like to share with the children in your family? While growing up, my parents had a very special and important Christmas tradition... My sister, my brother, and I had to take turns opening our Christmas presents!! Yep... That meant that we each had to wait patiently (and pay attention!) for the others to open a gift before opening one of our own. Do you know what it's like to expect an 8-year-old to WAIT to open a myriad of toys and goodies while her older brother peels each piece of tape in a ridiculously slow fashion just to torture me??? What if my Easy-Bake-Oven was in the next box??? What if my new Barbie was suffocating in the box underneath all that pretty paper??? What kind of parents make their children do this??? Oh, right... The ones who wait patiently for us to finish our dance lessons and cheer practice... The ones who sit through every choral concert, high school musical, dance recital rehearsal AND performance... The ones who attend every football and basketball game... Boy, they were good for teaching us to have patience like that -- They certainly must have known we'd need THAT lesson later on in life... :)
My own children have grown up with that same tradition at Christmas time... It makes me happy to look back now and realize that my parents were allowing me to experience what I now call "extra" Christmas... We took longer to open gifts which meant we spent more time with each other, enjoying everyone's presents (and presence) instead of just our own... Thanks, Mom... Thanks, Dad... :) Okay... Let's get to the "extra" reason that you're here...

As I prepared for this hop, I really wanted to show something for the kids too... When I was that 8-year-old impatient kid hoping for a new Barbie, I would also start 'shopping' for Christmas presents about a week before Thanksgiving (gee, what happened to that trait of preparing early???)... I was all about the handmade gifts (and I L-O-V-E-D wrapping presents!!). A gift I really enjoyed making (and people always seemed to enjoy receiving) was a potpourri-filled sachet... Sometimes I would find pieces of fabric to piece together, but other times I would simply decorate an envelope with crayons or markers (hmmm... something I still enjoy doing!!)... So, with the kiddos in mind, I made these tree shaped potpourri boxes!!

I'm so glad I didn't miss this one. My parents made us do the same thing, and we still do it to this day which stretches the morning out pretty well with all the extras (grandkids) thrown in. You know I just realized something....giftbags sure have made things go quicker now that we use them a lot.
Love the projects for the kids! My favorite tradition currently is going to the tree farm to pick out our tree with our boys.
My grandkids will sure love making these projects and I guarantee each one will fill with candy! One thing the family all look forward to is the giant cinnamon buns we always have ready!

OMG! I forgot all about the paper chains! I am going to have to dig up some scraps the next time the grandkids come over and make some. This has been a wonderful hop with so many great gift ideals. It has been a pleasure hopping with you.

Hi! Just popping by on day 3 to see if you had posted a new project. I think I forgot to tell my favorite Christmas tradition in my previous comment so I'll do that now. My family has a tradition of shouting "Christmas Gift!" when we speak to someone in person or on the phone for the first time on Christmas Day. It started long ago when my mother was a child and she continued it with us and we have continued it with our own children. It's just another way of telling one another that we feel blessed having the other person in our lives. It's fun and doesn't cost a penny.

Love your projects! The christmas garland is lovely and a great idea! I have also used the same shapes to make ornaments as well.. You have got me thinking about Christmas! Maybe I should put my tree up! LOL My favorite Holiday tradition is when my hubby, kids and I drive out and look at christmas lights at various subdivisions... we have done it for 12 years and some day when I have Grand Children, I hope to continue the tradition :) TFS! Love the projects. Fun to make with the kids. Love the cake idea. My favorite tradition is Having Christmas Eve with all the family and exchanging gifts then going to mid night mass
I love the paper chains. Two of my gsons are 5 so this will be a fun year to make the chains...
My favorite traditions are, we would go to bed to the lights on the Christmas tree being on and if we woke up and they were blinking we knew that Santa had come! We also baked Jesus a Birthday Cake and had a wooden manger with this tiny plastic baby laying in it on the center of the cake and then we would sing Happy Birthday to Jesus, and last my brother and I always tried to be the first to wake up but if we woke up to soon , mom and dad made us go back to bed..lol
