Scrappin' Chics Challenge -- October Guest Designer -- Halloween with a "Wicked" TWIST!! :)

A cackling hello to all my fabulous friends!!  October is upon us, and that means crisp nights, falling leaves, candy corn, and....  HALLOWEEN challenges!!  WOW...  They are all over the place now, aren't they???  Gather up your goblins and keep your kiddies close.  It's time for all things SPOOKY and CREEPY and TRICK or TREATY!! :)

For the month of October I've been asked to be a Guest Designer at the Scrappin' Chics Challenge Blog!!  I'd like to thank Jen and Kimmarie for this very sweet honor -- It seems like it was only yesterday that these two started up their month-long challenges!!  Over at Scrappin' Chics Challenge Blog, they have a pretty neat concept...  They invite a few Guest Designers to join their "regular" DT and create multiple projects for the challenge theme throughout the month...  As a participant, you have ALL month to create a card, layout, or other project to enter in the challenge, so I hope to see your entries soon!! :)  This month, we've been asked to create a Halloween project using the colors PURPLE and GREEN (you can use additional colors as long as you also use purple and green).  I hope you'll hop on over to Scrappin' Chics Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the team created for inspiration -- It's sure to be a sweet treat!! :)

Now, here's my take on the challenge...
Recently, The-Girl-Child and I attended the musical "Wicked" with The-Grandparents...  It.Was.Magnificent.  I was, of course, expecting it to be good, but I certainly wasn't expecting to love, love, LOVE it as much as I did!!  So my Halloween layout here is inspired by this really-wonderful-and-can't-wait-to-see-it-again musical...
That fabulous font for the "Wicked" title can be found on the Happy Hauntings Cricut Cartrdige (Spooky Font).  Since this font does not have a shadow, I cut the title twice (once from Grape cardstock and once from Apple polka-dot decorative paper) at 2" and adhered them together slightly off-center.  I used my Gelly Roll Stardust pen to outline the green letters and my white Signo pen to faux stitch the purple letters.  The fabulous gauzy-looking ribbon under the title is actually hand-dyed 100% rayon Crinkle Ribbon from 3 Girl JAM (I have a GIVEAWAY for some of this ribbon right now -- CLICK HERE for details!!)...  I just LOVE the effect of this ribbon on this layout!! :)
That AWESOME hat was cut as large as I could get it by twisting it a bit on my Gypsy (I believe the final size was about 9.75").  I distressed the edges of the hat with white chalking ink, embossed the band with my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder, added faux stitching with my white Signo pen, and popped up the yellow buckle with some foam tape.  For now, this layout is being displayed on my Creative Memories Everyday Display (available HERE)...  Since this is a magnetic display board, I can quickly change it to a new theme as often as I'd like.  When I add this layout to my scrapbook, I will likely create a second page for more pictures and memorabilia from this fantastic evening -- By cutting the witches hat in half, it will be able to spread across the center of the two pages, making a perfect accent for a two-page layout...
That spooky spider is actually part of the cut on the witch hat, though I did adjust how he was hanging down since I turned the hat more to the side...  His face was created with a Peachy Keen set (I want to say it was "Funshine Face Parts" but I'm not 100% sure about that -- The stamp was a little too big for my spider, so I adjusted it quite a bit to make it fit).  I added some white to the eyes and mouth to make him POP.  I also used my Gelly Roll Stardust Pen to outline him and make him a little less scary looking (who's afraid of a spider covered in glitter???)...
My photo mat will accommodate a 5"x7" photo...  The tags (a perfect little spot to add some journaling) were punched with my Creative Memories tag punch (still a favorite).  I added the bows to the tags with some more 3 Girl JAM Crinkle Ribbon...

I hope you've enjoyed my "Wicked" 12x12 layout...  I'd love to see YOUR take on the challenge, so create a Halloween-themed project using GREEN and PURPLE and enter it over at the Scrappin' Chics Challenge Blog!!  Hope to see ya there soon!! :)  Of course...  If you decide not to enter...  Well, I might just have to get ya, my pretty....  And your little dog too!!  Bwahahahahaha!!  :)

I love that LO. The face on your spider is adorable, and I like the way you made the hat big enough that you can use it on a second page. I also like making 2 page LO's. I popped in from the FBT on Getting Cricky.
