Celebrate The Occasion -- Challenge #35: Birthday Card (for a BOY!) with a TWIST!! :)

Happy Tuesday everyone!!  It's one of my FAVORITE days -- and time for another challenge at Celebrate The Occasion!!!  This week we were asked to create a card, layout, or 3D project for a "Male Birthday" and the TWIST is to USE METAL!!  I'm so excited to show you what I created!! :)
This is a 5.5" square card...  I've been having some fun with square cards AND with zipper pockets lately (did you see my layout posted HERE yet???  It's my current favorite!!), so I thought I'd combine the two for this challenge.
I started by creating this 4"x4" pocket -- A strip of 4"x 7.75" ivory cardstock was scored at 1" and 5"...  I then embossed it with the Cuttlebug "Tiny Bubbles" embossing folder and distressed it with some yellow ink.  I attached the zipper to the opening with some super-sticky red tape (I'm trying a new brand called "Hercules") and wrapped the excess zipper and tabs around the back of the pocket to adhere it securely.  I used Tombow glue to attach the sides and then faux-stitched the edges with a Gelly-Roll brown stardust pen.  I wrapped the pocket with some cotton thread that reminds me of Baker's Twine and added some distressed paper stars (punched with my Creative Memories Star Maker) and a metal star brad...
Since the zipper really works, I added a gift card (complete with a matching gift card topper) to the pocket...
I stamped the sentiment using the FUN mix-n-match sentiments from the "Fall-O-Ween" and "Coffee & Tea" Stamp Art Sets by K Andrew Designs -- If you're ready to try some of these stamps out yourself, be sure to stop back by on Friday evening for the Getting Cricky Blog Hop -- I'll have COUPON codes for you to SAVE on your order this weekend!! :)
In addition to the metal star brad I also added some staples to the edges of the card and on top of the stars on the pocket...
I hope you've enjoyed seeing my card as much as I've enjoyed sharing it with you!!  If you have any questions or would like to leave a comment, I love to read what you have to say....

The AWESOME CTO Design Team has some WONDERFUL inspiration for you, so I really hope you'll pop on over and visit my creative friends at Celebrate The Occasion -- THEN link up YOUR card, layout or project celebrating a Male Birthday (be sure to use metal on your project) for a chance to WIN this month's PRIZE!!  You have until Sunday, October 23rd at 11:59pm to add your take on the Challenge!!  Hope to see you there!! :)

Until next time,

Amy,
This is fabulous. I would have never thought of something so clever and fun. Yet it could be used for just about any age as well. TFS. Also to the commenter who talked about searching Craigslist for zippers! TFS that idea too. Never thought of that. Way to think outside the box ladies!
